A wealth of history rests within the stone walls of Camp Nelson National Cemetery. Here, honored in death for their service to our nation, are more than fourteen thousand, eight hundred military veterans of the Civil War, the Spanish American War, World Wars I and II, Korea, and the conflicts in Vietnam, the Persian Gulf, Iraq, and Afghanistan.
Private William M. Harris, was awarded the Medal of Honor on 5 October 1878 for his service with Company D, 7th U.S. Calvary, at Little Big Horn River, Montana in 1876. Private Harris is interred at Camp Nelson National Cemetery.
